Established in the year 2000 on the current model of counterpart faculties. It is a community-oriented faculty with intervening and integral syllabus to serve the community. It awards bachelor honors degree in four years.

Introduction to the faculty: The Faculty of Science and Technology established in 2000 in Shendi town in contemporary pattern of science and technology faculties, therefore it is oriented to serve community, contributing in solving its scientific and technological problems. Its curriculum is overlapping and it is complementary to realize this goal. The faculty derives its objective from the university goals particularly in preparing a graduate capable to serve the community. The faculty is aspiring to lay down study plans to meet its different specialization requirements and the community needs since its establishment it is taking into consideration permanent development of these plans in comply with the international developments. The faculty is endeavoring to lay down doctorate, master and high diploma programs in all specializations within a comprehensive plan of the faculty to improve high studies in the university in order to meet community needs and desires of graduates in continuing in their high studies. The faculty puts in its work priorities rehabilitation of scientific laboratories and upgrading them as it works with the official authorities with great efforts to provide lab. Requisitions then a student could find appropriate opportunity to complete scientific course and scientific research so as a student of scientific research could find a chance to achieve their research. The faculty is trying to cooperate with local and foreign institutions and signing cooperation joint agreements with local community institutions whitin studied plan. The Vision: The faculty is endeavoring during the coming years to realize quality, distinguishing to put itself in a high position on university educational map through providing good educational and scientific research environment as well as community serving. It should be a pioneer in Sciences and Technology in Sudan, Africa and the Arab word. The faculty graduates shall be more distinguished by qualifying specialized and skilled cadre through providing improved curriculum in accordance with international standards. The Message: The faculty is trying to build high level scientific personality capable to produce distinguished and improved production academically, scientifically and socially through compact syllabus, good teaching and constructive activities as well as preparing researchers capable to promote knowledge and exploiting it in solving problems. Goals: The faculty derives its goals from the university goals, therefore it is trying to realize the following objectives: • Teaching and training of students on Science and Technology field and preparing them to labour market. • Carrying out scientific and applicable researches relating to the need and the problem of the community purposely to develop it technological and scientifically. • Contributing in community comprehensive development and disseminating of scientific and technological awareness among family individuals and the community. • Taking into consideration scientific concepts and heritage for the purpose of carrying out the required studies to improve them. • Linking a graduate with the faculty and the community. • Integrating with relative sectors and incorporating these sectors in staff teaching and training to upgrade scientific and technological levels. Board Formation of the Board The dept. board consists of teaching staff members each dept. board has competences in academic affairs within the regulations limits. Organization of the board • The board holds a meeting once a month at least. The quorum will be completed with two third of the members. • The head dept. shall preside over the meeting, the board resolutions will be issued by overwhelming votes and when votes are equal the head side will be given preponderate. • The dept. resolutions are effective unless the dean faculty objects, if he objects he would refer them to the board supported by his point of view to be studied again. If the board insists upon his opinion the resolutions will be referred to the faculty board to look into them. The faculty board resolution is irrevocable. The Board functions • Recommending appointment of teaching staff members and their Assts. • Recommending endorsement of study plans and their amendments. • Encouraging dept. members to prepare scientific researches, coordinating and disseminating them. • Encouraging dept. members to prepare lecture, symposiums in the field oriented to the community. • Proposing par timer persons of scientific positions to teach and supervise researches and thesis. • Considering what is referred by the faculty boards, its head or any of the faculty units and giving opinion. • Formation of permanent and temporary committees from teaching staff members. The Board competences • Formation of committees from its members or others. • Proposing success conditions to each syllabus and its percentage. • Recommending syllabus equation which the student studied outside the university. • Endorsing lecture, exercises and work distribution among teaching staff members and nomination of specialized arbitrators and supervisors. • Recommending approval of a teaching staff member participation in conferences and symposiums conducting in Sudan or abroad. • Recommending assistance of par time professors. • Entrusting teaching staff members other than the syllabus Prof. to correct exams. • Lying down final exam. Questions. • The previous recommendations should be presented to the faculty board. B- Job specifications of the Dept.: Head Dept. He is a teaching staff member entrusted to steer scientific, administrative and financial affairs of the dept., responsible for application of the university regulations. He presents a report on the dept. work at the end of each semester and accountable before the dean. Functions and Competences of Head Dept. • Presiding over dept. board, supervising its affairs, calling for its meetings, implementing its resolutions and presenting the meeting minutes to the dean faculty. • Realizing high goals and policies in the university. • Implementing the faculty board resolutions concerning the dept. • Supervising preparation of the dept. strategic plan. • Supervising educational, research, administrative and cultural affairs of the dept. • Supervising the dept. upgrading administratively, academically and research wise. • Supervising promotion of quality and improving its outputs. • Implementing and monitoring the dept. board resolutions. • Carrying out of what is entrusted by the dean faculty. • Reporting to the dean faculty on what is done by a teaching staff member regarding the required duties or any other violations. • Endorsing the lists of final exam. Results. • Issuance of internal resolutions necessitate by good conduct in the dept. in comply with the regulations. • Distributing educational duties among teaching staff members. • Exercising an effective educational role in orienting and guidance of students scientifically and educationally endorsing group system supported by the dept. professors in realizing this goal.
